This study aims to research the effect of using nature related listening texts together with nature visuals on listening skills. This situation has come to light lately and it is widely accepted that education is the key to solving this problem. Nature, environment, ecology and education are now topics that are considered within individual and education programs. And, here right at this point, we come across the concept of education.

Listening is one of the four basic language skills for native language education. One of the effective elements in listening is seeing. Since 2006, Turkish education programs state them together as «audio-visual» not separately as listening and seeing . Various studies confirm the importance of visual .

Important effect of visuals on understanding and expression means visual literacy concept as well. Visual literacy can be defined as «skill to construct conscious visual messages and to produce meaning from visual messages in the communication process» . According to International Visual Literacy Association, visual literacy is «a group of visioncompetencies a human being can develop by seeing and at the same time having and integrating other sensory experiences» . Emphasizing visuals in education is not without a reason.

Studies suggest that visuals have an important role in learning, restructuring, comprehending and expressing knowledge. Our research will make contribution to the literature in this sense.

Comparison between the results of first implementation and last implementation with listening texts mentioning various topics in nature, environment and ecology rendered surprising results. Having such a low student’s awareness level on importance of nature coincides with findings by Golumbeanu et al. As a matter of fact, the success rate in this issue increased 95.82% in the second implementation with use of nature visuals. One of the most effective methods for increasing awareness and consciousness is use of visuals.

Review

After I read the entire article from the article where the researcher used podcasts to improve the listening skills of students in school. Based on the content of the article, the researcher used the pretest-posttest method where during the pre-test essay, students listened to the podcast audio and answered questions on the answer sheet. Then, they heard the difference in podcast audio and answered the questions in the post-test - the time allotted was 30 minutes. Then, the exam will be assessed by researchers only. And after treatment, the researcher concluded that using the podcast application to improve student's listening skills has reasonably good effectiveness.

Advantages & Disadvantages

1. Advantages

  • So we can use methods like in the article to improve our listening skills
  • The language used is also easy to understand
  • The use of various references that we can also use
  • The topics used are also modern and up to date
2. Disadvantages

From me, in my opinion, in this article has no disadvantage.

Critical Reading "Easy Tips Reading Scientific Articles"

Easy Tips to Read Scientific Articles

1. First, of course you have to find the scientific article first, according to what you want to read and understand.

2. Second, consider the overall arrangement of the contents of the article.

3. After paying attention and you know everything is complete, you may start reading from the introduction. Skip the abstract, because the content of the abstract is a summary of the entire journal content, but sometimes the abstract content does not explain the contents of the journal, so in order not to misquote, first understand the background of the research carried out in the article in the opening section.

4. After reading the background of the birth of the article, please make a big question / outline why the article was born.

5. Then make a summary of the background that you have read earlier, it doesn't take much.

6. Make a list of the work tools used in the method section by making a diagram (mind mapping) to make it easier for you to understand the tools, materials, and methods of work that the researcher is doing.

7. Then start reading the results of the article. You also don't need to conclude the content of the research results, just write down what the research results are, the results are significant or not. Also the sample size used is representative or not.

8. Move to the conclusion. A good conclusion is one that answers the heart of the problem at hand.

9. Finally, when you have finished getting the results in question, you can go back to looking at the existing abstract, to double-check whether what you understand is appropriate or not.
